Alexander Sokolicek is moving to the University of Salzburg

Our colleague A. Sokolicek has been appointed to hold the chair in Classical Archaeology in Salzburg.

On October 1, 2019 our colleague Dr. Alexander Sokolicek will be appointed university professor for Classical Archaeology in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University. He succeeds Prof. Wolfgang Wohlmayr who recently passed away unexpectedly. Alexander Sokolicek was previously deployed at the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome in order to increase the Austrian and Italian connect with each other by creating new joint projects. In his new role at the University of Salzburg, he will take over the research area of provincial Roman archaeology as well as the management of the renowned excavations in Aegina/Kolonna in Greece. Additionally, A. Sokolicek will also continue his FWF-project in Aigeira at the University of Salzburg. He will continue to remain connected with the OeAI: a close cooperation is planned for research projects as well as in the training and promotion of junior researchers.

We wish our colleague all the best and look forward to collaborating!
