One-day kick-off workshop on June 11 brings together researchers from the fields of archaeometry and archaeology.
The kick-off workshop took place on June 11 in Vienna and provided a platform for the exchange and networking between researchers of Austrian research institutions dealing with archaeometric applications and archaeologists. In addition to representatives of the University of Vienna, the Federal Monument Authority, the TU Vienna, the Montanuniversity Leoben, participants from the BOKU Vienna, the University of Applied Arts, and the Academy of Fine Arts took part.
Furthermore, the keynote talks by Alessandra Pecci of the University of Barcelona and Vassilis Kilikoglou from the National Center for Scientific Research »Demokritos« provided the opportunity to gain an overview of areas not yet adopted and in need of development in Austria. In particular this included organic residue analysis and mechanical and thermal properties of ceramics as a tool for functional analyses.
Throughout the event it became clear how the application of scientific methods can aid and complement in the clarification of archaeological questions and which extensive possibilities are available for future collaboration.
