The library currently has an inventory of almost 20,000 volumes, with content emphasis primarily on the archaeology and history of Greece from prehistory until Late Antiquity. With the exception of a number of older book collections dating back to its beginnings in the early 20th century, the library reflects in particular the research themes of topography, architecture and pottery that are represented at the Institute. The Institute endeavours to make the inventory of Austrian publications on Greek antiquity and Byzantine history as accessible to the Athenian professional public as possible.

Opening hours: the library is a reference library and is publicly accessible during the opening hours of the Institute, as well as by arrangement. The inventory is recorded in the online catalogue of the University of Vienna Library, and is denoted via the scribal abbreviation ÖAI /Bibliothek Athen OeAW with the site information.
