Biographical sketch

Diploma studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Media in Stuttgart. From 1993 to 1996 studied geography and ecology at the University of Lüneburg. From 2000 to 2002 training as a technician in archaeological sciences at the University of Tübingen (Department of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology). Since 2002, collaboration on various archaeological projects with a focus on the Upper Palaeolithic in Central Europe and prehistory in south-eastern Arabia. 2005 Employment as research associate at the Prehistoric Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 2011 he was appointed to a permanent position.

    • Archaeology of open-air and cave sites of the Upper Palaeolithic in Central Europe in the context of Quaternary research
    • Human adaptations to the dynamic climatic and environmental conditions during the last glacial cycle in Central and Eastern Europe
    • Human-environment relations and landscape development in south-eastern Arabia from the Palaeolithic to the Iron Age
    • Field work, documentation, stratigraphy, chronology, taphonomy, site formation
    • Austrian Quaternary Sites (AQS): database development and administration, data management and evaluation
