Those who appear in the ranking of "Highly Cited Researchers" can count themselves among the most internationally influential scientists in the world. In the latest ranking by Clarivate Analytics, 27 scientists are listed who work at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) or who, as members, are closely associated with it.
The annual survey, based on the data from the "Web of Science" citation database, examines how often publications by a researcher from a field of medicine or the natural and social sciences were cited by peers between 2010 and 2020. In addition to the number of publications in specialist journals, the number of citations is a measure of the scientific relevance of research work.
The "Highly Cited Researchers" ranking currently includes around 6,600 scientists worldwide from 21 research areas. According to the evaluation of the primary and secondary affiliation, a total of 49 people from Austria are among the world's most cited researchers, 16 of whom are employees or members of the OeAW in Austria.
