OeAW President Zeilinger appeals for vaccinations

Vaccination protects us all: first and second vaccinations are crucial for building up protection, while booster vaccinations maintain protection.

In view of the record levels of new infections with the coronavirus, the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) recommends immunization via vaccine for all those who can be vaccinated.

"The scientific facts are clear: vaccination is the best protection we have against an infection with the coronavirus," explains Anton Zeilinger, President of the OeAW. He therefore urgently appeals for vaccinations: "Have confidence in science and medicine and get vaccinated!"

Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate!

The booster vaccinations are particularly important for all those who received their first and second vaccinations four months or more ago. Several scientific studies indicate that the protection imparted by the first and second vaccinations diminishes over time and that a boost with a third dose is necessary. The OeAW therefore appeals to politicians to make third vaccinations available quickly and as widely as possible.

"Have confidence in science and medicine and get vaccinated!"

"The first and second vaccinations are important for building up protection, the third vaccination is crucial for maintaining protection," Zeilinger says: "So: vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate!"
This also applies to adolescents, for whom the incidences of COVID-19 are currently highest. The OeAW hopes that as many young people as possible will be vaccinated and that vaccinations for children under the age of 12 will soon be possible across Austria.
