Requirements for improving eco-efficiency in the chemical sector

The aim of the study was to identify products, processes, or other problem areas within the European chemical industry with especially high environmental protection costs, consumption of raw-materials and energy, contribution to pollution and impacts like the green-house effect and ozone depletion, or which receive most criticism from environmental activists.

This information will be fed into activities of the IPTS (Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, Seville) to analyse key technologies with the potential for improving the ecological efficiency of the chemical industry.
