Biography

Josefa Stiegler is a political scientist working at the intersections of critical urbanism, feminist security studies and decolonial theory. She has an interdisciplinary background and degrees in Scandinavian Studies (University of Vienna), Urban Studies (Malmö University) and Gender Studies (University of Vienna). Her doctoral thesis focuses on the political activism of mothers of victims of police violence in favelas in Rio de Janeiro and investigates how everyday urban violence and (in)securities shape social inequalities. From 2017 to 2021 she worked as a university assistant (pre-doc) at the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna. In 2022, she received a scholarship from Literar-Mechana and since March 2023, she is working on the project D.Rad - DeRadicalisation in Europe and Beyond: Detect, Resolve, Reintegrate at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
