Jakob Eder studied geography at the University of Vienna and the University of Oslo (ERASMUS stay), focusing on population and economic geography.

He wrote his Master’s thesis on the consequences of demographic aging on firms in Austria and has worked as a research assistant at the Vienna Institute for Demography (VID) and the Institute for Urban and Regional Research (ISR). Since 2016, he is based solely at the ISR, where he began his dissertation project on innovation practices in peripheral contexts in Austria. He continues to teach at the University of Vienna and is involved in ongoing research projects.

His research focuses on the geography of innovation and population geography and deals with questions of spatial planning.
