Maximilian Graf (European University Institute, Florence) is leader of the project on the biography of Franz Marek in the research unit History of the Habsburg Monarchy.

Brief Biography


Maximilian Graf studied history at the University of Vienna and received his PhD in 2012. He was employed at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and at the University of Vienna from 2010 to 2016. In 2013, he was a research associate at the Centre Marc Bloch in Berlin and in 2017 visiting scholar at Stanford University. His work has won several awards: the 'Karl-von-Vogelsang Staatspreis’ in 2014, the ‘Dr.-Alois-Mock-Wissenschaftspreis’ in 2015, best publication in the philosophical-historical category at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Jubiläumsfonds der Stadt Wien für die ÖAW) in 2017. He is involved in acquiring external funding from the Austrian Science Fund, the Anniversary Fund of the Austrian National Bank, the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria and from foundations abroad.
