Georg Lukács and New Objectivity.
On the Thematics of Reification in the Literature of the 1920s.

The essay argues for a nuanced view of Lukács’s relationship to New Objectivity. In addition to the often-cited negative statements from the 1930s, it draws in particular on the concept of reification developed in the essay “Reification and the Consciousness of the Proletariat” (included in “History and Class Consciousness,” 1923). The findings presented in the article not only enable a deeper understanding of Lukács’s “History and Class Consciousness” (1923), but also provide a basis for analytically examining the literature of New Objectivity—both that available to Lukács in 1923 and that produced after 1923.

Der Aufsatz plädiert für eine differenzierte Sicht auf Lukács’ Verhältnis zur Neuen Sachlichkeit.
Als Ergänzung zu den oft zitierten negativen Stellungnahmen aus den 1930er-Jahren zitiert er insbesondere das im Aufsatz „Die Verdinglichung und das Bewusstsein des Proletariats“ (abgedruckt in ›Geschichte und Klassenbewusstsein‹, 1923) entwickelte Konzept der Verdinglichung. Die im Beitrag erarbeiteten Ergebnisse ermöglichen nicht nur ein vertieftes Verständnis von Lukács’ ›Geschichte und Klassenbewusstsein‹ (1923), sondern bieten auch eine Grundlage, die neusachliche Literatur – sowohl jene, die Lukács 1923 zur Verfügung stand, als auch die nach 1923 entstandene – analytisch zu erschließen.
