JOACHIM RICKES (Berlin): Rätselhaftigkeit als poetische Struktur. Die Metallstange in Daniel Kehlmanns Roman ›F‹.

In Daniel Kehlmanns jüngstem Roman ›F‹ spielt eine Metallstange eine kleine, aber bedeutsame Rolle. Im Text nur zweimal knapp erwähnt, taucht sie an wichtigen Einschnitten der Handlung auf und wirft für den Leser die Frage ihrer poetologischen Funktion auf. In einem genauen Nachvollzug der Darstellung der Metallstange wird zunächst ihrer textinternen Relevanz nachgegangen. Daraus ergeben sich Hinweise auf eine mögliche biographische Deutung: Die mysteriöse Stange lässt sich auf die Geschichte der (jüdischen) Familie Kehlmann beziehen und als ein ‚privates' Symbol deuten. Abschließend werden weitere mögliche (z.B. psychoanalytische, kulturhistorische oder literarische) Bezüge der Stange kurz diskutiert. 

In Daniel Kehlmanns latest novel ›F‹ a piece of sharpened metal plays a small, but important role. It is mentioned only twice, but appears at important points of the plot and leaves the reader with many questions about its poetic function and meaning. In this paper, at first a close reading looks into the internal relevancy of the mysterious piece of metal. As is shown further on, it can be related to the history of the (jewish) family Kehlmann and thus be interpreted as a "private" symbol. At the end of the paper, other possible meanings of the "Metallstange" (e.g. references to psychoanalysis, history or to other literary texts) are briefly discussed.
