Der Beitrag zeigt zum ersten Mal durch eine gründliche Analyse aller vorhandenen Quellen, wie Oswald Spenglers Philosophie das Schaffen Henry Millers beeinflusst hat. Es wird gezeigt, dass der ›Untergang des Abendlandes‹ als Schlüsseltext nicht nur zum Verständnis des philosophischen Gehalts beiträgt, sondern auch die stilistische Zielsetzung des Miller'schen Schaffens von seinen ersten Jugendschriften bis zu seinem Alterswerk prägte.

The study is the first to show through a close analysis of all available sources the reception of Oswald Spengler's philosophy by Henry Miller. It can be shown that the ›Decline of the West‹ has to be regarded as a key text for an understanding of Miller's philosophical and stylistic aims and that it has exerted a lasting influence from his first literary attempts up to his late work.
