Biography

Born 1936 in Levoča (Slovakia). Studies in History, Philosophy, Theology, Ethnology and Musicology in Rome, Paris and Vienna. Professor of Austrian/Central European History at Graz University, 1984–2004. Prof. Associé à l'Université Laval/Québec. Member of the Austrian and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Head of the Special Research Program Modernity. Vienna and Central Europe around 1900 (Graz University), 1997–2005.
