The National Socialist City Administration as an Instrument of Terror and Persecution

A Comparative Analysis of the Dominion of Vienna 1938 -1945

The research project "National Socialist City Administration as an Instrument of Terror and Persecution. A Comparative Analysis of the Dominion of Vienna 1938 -1945" aims to situate and contextualise the city administration of Vienna and of other Austrian cities from the "Anschluss" in 1938 to the end of NS-regime by comparatively referring to the practice of National Socialist rule in city administrations in the German Reich since 1933. The focus is on the role of municipal administration as an instrument of terror and persecution, as well as on room for manoeuvre and strategies of action.
