Spaces of Translation

Negotiating Difference Across Time and Space

This project is based on the definition of spaces of translation as those interstitial spaces in which the negotiation of differences unfolds – at least in principle – as a continuum; thus it examines the diversity of specific [textual] forms of such spaces of translation in various epochs of cultural history. Going beyond the concept of Bhabha’s ‘metaphoric’ third space, the project will focus also on actual spatial areas and movements within the same to the extent that they exert an influence on the translation process.
