Memory politics between the "Invocation of Europe" and the focus on "our" suffering
This project investigates how the World War II period is represented in state-funded post-communist memorial museums (re-)established in Central and South East Europe after 1989 in the context of the “Europeanization of Memory” and the efforts to re-narrate history after the fall of the communist regimes. The research focuses on how the World War II period, occupation, resistance, collaboration, victimhood, and the Holocaust are represented. How is the memory of traumatic pasts canonized and transformed in the process of EU-integration of post-communist countries during the formation of a European space of communication and memorial landscape?
