Transnational interrelations - Life stories - Remembering the Holocaust victims
Vienna around 1900 was in many aspects a kind of “magnet”, especially as a scientific centre that some decades ago opened its door for Jewish students too. Furthermore, it was the intellectual, artistic and cultural milieu that crucially contributed to Vienna’s attraction, especially for Jewish students from the non-German speaking crown lands of the Habsburg Monarchy. Some of them emerged into leading intellectuals, coming back to their homelands after finishing their studies in Vienna.
This project aims to analyze, from a transnational perspective the importance of the “Viennese experience” for the mentioned group of Jewish students on the basis of life stories. The project will show the significance of this intellectual milieu for both contexts Bosnian and Herzegovinian and Austrian. Thereby the essential aspects of Vienna as “city of science” around 1900 and its interrelations, especially within Central Europe, will be emphasized in transnational perspective.
