The Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia (IKGA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is offering a

History of Tibetan Religion and Philosophy

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The successful applicant will investigate historical aspects of the scholarly traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and their intellectual practices, also within the larger cultural and social context and in consideration of transcultural connections especially in the Himalayan region and with South Asia.

In addition to conducting his/her own research the applicant should actively develop research groups by attracting third-party funding and have demonstrable experience in conceptualizing and conducting independent research projects. A doctorate or equivalent degree in Tibetan Studies is required, as is excellent knowledge of Sanskrit.

The position is initially limited for six years. The salary is based on the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, with an entrance salary of 3.219,60 EUR. A higher salary is possible depending on qualification and prior work history.
