In 2010, the library of Dr. Karim Zamanzadeh Chahriar was generously donated to the Institute of Iranian Studies through his son Alain Chahriar.
Doctor Karim Zamanzadeh Chahriar, born in Tehran (Iran)in 1908 and deceased in Nice (France) in 2007, dedicated а large part of his life to collecting, searching, classifying and conserving numerous documents оп lran and its history, that of Persia and its various dynasties, over а period of 70 years and even longer for certain documents.
Karim Zamanzadeh Chahriar was born in Tehran (Iran) in 1908. After primary and secondary studies, he continued his studies at the Advanced School of Medicine, where he oЬtained his degree in medicine. Upon obtaining this degree, the Ministry of Public Health assigned him with а campaign to combat cholera, which existed in the south of lran at the time, and at the same time he had to attend to establishments that had been quarantined in the port of Bandar Shahpur in the Persian Gulf. At the end of this assignment, which lasted for а уеаг, he returned to Тehran and became the Deputy Head of forensic medicine. Не himself became а coroner.
Не then entered the Ministry of the lnterior as а doctor and senior inspector in this ministry. After some years he was assigned а mission in Europe, to саггу out research concerning the organisation of health and hospital establishments, particularly in France; at the same time, he took advantage of his stay in this country to become а foreign assistant at the hospital for sick children, in the service of Professor Robert Debré. Не stayed for three years. In 1948 he obtained а diploma as foreign assistant in the paediatric service of Professor Robert Debré.
Upon his retum to Tehran, another mission awaited him at the Ministry of Public Health. Не then went to Shiraz, as General Director of Public Health, where he remained for two years. ln 1959/1960 he was appointed to the important function as Governor and Мауог of the town of Кhorramshahr, with the same appointment in Abadan.
А little tired, he resigned from these two posts in the south of lran. Не retumed to Tehran to rest for а while, but the head of the Red Cross, who was one of his friends, asked him to work for this organisation. After some time, he was entrusted with а new mission as head of а group of lranian doctors and surgeons (lranian surgical team) and left for South Vietnam (Saigon) in 1967. Не stayed there for 6 months.
Не returned to lran to finally take up his retirement. Не spent the last thirty years of his life in the south of France, in Nice.
