Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna for the Austrian Academy of Sciences: Call 2019

CLIMATE CHANGE: LIVING – WITH THE EFFECTS – IN A METROPOLITAN REGION SUCH AS VIENNA

The new Anniversary Fund call supports scientific projects that address urban challenges of climate change.

Target group

The call is addressed to scientists from scientific disciplines that use anticipated changes in a metropolitan area such as Vienna and its surrounding region as the basis for sustainable concepts of living and economic concepts.

The call supports projects that, in particular:

  • take into account change, sustainability and crisis exit strategies using suitable scientific methodology and appropriately include Sustainable Development Goals (SDG),
  • are open to interdisciplinary cooperation,
  • are transdisciplinary.

Participation from natural sciences disciplines and the technical sciences is desired.


Application requirements

  • The project must take place at an Austrian research facility. Approval from the representatives of the relevant research facilities must be enclosed with the application. A research facility may support multiple applications.
  • Applicants must hold at least a doctorate or a comparable academic agree.
  • Applicants must be prepared to pro-actively contribute to the public presentation of the programme and to take part in associated events.

Funding term

Projects will be funded for a period of 12 months with the possibility of a cost-neutral extension of the project term of up to a maximum of 12 months.


Amount of grant

The budget for each of the projects is up to EUR 100,000. The budget of the entire programme amounts to EUR 300,000. The following direct costs may be applied for:

  • Staff costs
  • Consumables
  • Other costs (e.g. user charges for infrastructures, travel expenses)

Overheads are not funded.


Procedure

  • Release of the call: November 2018
  • Deadline: 18 February 2019, 12:00 (CET)
  • All submissions which meet the necessary formal requirements for application will be presented to an independent jury. The jury will decide on recommendations for funding based on its own expertise and if necessary additional peer review.
  • The award decision is made by the Board of Trustees of the Anniversary Fund, expected in June 2019.
  • Applicants will be informed immediately after final decisions are made.

Selected projects shall not start later than four months after approval.

By their submission in connection with this call for proposals the applicants acknowledge that the related data and documents will be forwarded to the members of the jury and experts for purpose of evaluation of the application and decision-making with regard to the award of grants.
