OeAW begins returning to normal operation

The Academy buildings, which were closed as part of the measures to contain the coronavirus, will be reopened to employees in May in compliance with the applicable safety regulations.

The buildings of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), which have been closed since March 17, 2020, will be accessible again in May. In compliance with the applicable safety regulations, such as the distance rules, employees can access the OeAW buildings and their workplaces at the Austrian locations of the Academy.

With this, the OeAW initiates the return to normal research and administrative activity. Accompanying precautions and organizational steps ensure that the provisions and recommendations issued by the Austrian Government are strictly observed in the buildings of the OeAW. For the sake of employees’ health, rules regarding staggered attendance and a variety of other flexible organizational solutions are in use.

Event restrictions remain

OeAW efforts to normalize the situation are coordinated with the current precautions to contain the coronavirus in Austria. The bans and restrictions on events ordered by the Federal Government therefore continue to apply to all lectures, conferences, seminars and other event formats at the Academy.

Furthermore, only those affiliated with the OeAW can re-enter the Academy buildings. For safety reasons, external visitors are permitted only in exceptional cases and after prior registration and approval.

The Academy remains electronically accessible for all queries. Individual employees can be contacted via their individual email addresses (firstname.surname@oeaw.ac.at). The central administration of the Academy can be contacted via the email webmaster(at)oeaw.ac.at.
