Academic background

Carolin Schmid studied Phonetics, French linguistics and Sociology at the University of Trier, Germany. She graduated in 2012 with her theses titled "Eine sprachkontrastive Betrachtung der Grundfrequenzdeklination anhand von Korpora deutscher und französischer Fernseh- und Radiosprache", which she wrote during a research-internship at the Institut de Linguistique et de Phonétique Générales Appliquées in Paris. Since september 2012 she works at the Acoustics Research Institute in Vienna.

Current Research

Carolin Schmid works as a research assistant in the Acoustic Phonetics group. She was first concerned with contrastive linguistics, by working on semantic focus marking and word accent in Standard Austrian German and Standard German German, as well as on the sociophonetic and phonological aspects of laterals in Albanian and in the Viennese dialect. Currently she is performing her dissertation about the sociophonetic aspects of language contact, dealing with the pronunciation of laterals in L2 German and L1 Bosnian by Bosnian migrants living in Vienna.
