... is a research associate and works on the Austrian Biographical Encyclopedia (ÖBL) where he is responsible for the fields of politics, diplomacy, the justice system and religion. Born in Lienz (East Tyrol) in 1972, he pursued Slavic and Romance studies in Innsbruck, Moscow and Forlì and received his PhD in Klagenfurt in 2003. From 2000 to 2013, he was a researcher at the Institute of Lexicography of Austrian Dialects and Names at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (project: 'Wörterbuch der bairischen Mundarten in Österreich’). He joined the Austrian Biographical Encyclopedia as editor in 2013. Hubert Bergmann has taught at the universities of Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna. He is a member of several specialist associations and expert bodies, e.g. the Austrian Board on Geographical Names (AKO), Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (StAGN), United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names, as well as on the editing board of ‘Jezikoslovni zapiski’ (Ljubljana) and the reviewers’ committee of ‘Voprosy onomastiki’ (Moscow and Ekaterinburg). His main research interests are biographical lexicography and personal history, onomastics, language contact and cultural contact.
