Open access

Open access pursues the goal of making scientific publications and data available on the Internet for free. This ensures quicker access to scientific information and simplifies usage for further research work.

An open access policy has been implemented at the OAW for several years. Besides digital publications of large inventory from image archives to journals and dictionaries, numerous research results are also made available in digital format. For this purpose the electronic repository epub.OAW was established as a technical infrastructure.

The work group Open Access at the Austrian Academy of Sciences promotes the open access policy with a large number of activities: Besides providing infrastructure and information, OAW scientists are supported during open access publications, and communal projects – such as the digital release of the Austrian Music Dictionary Lexicon – are performed.
