Endangered varieties in Italy and the Balkans

The fourth volume of the series is dedicated to the linguistic minorities of Italy and the Balkans.

The subject of linguistic minorities has long been taboo in scientific discussion in Italy and the Balkans, despite the geopolitical situation demanding dialogue between the opposite shores of the Adriatic. In this volume the contributions to the conference Safeguarding the multiplicity of languages in Europe. Linguistic varieties and minorities at risk in Italy and the Balkans at the Villa Vigoni in Como, organized by Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, are published. The project aims to support the study of threatened languages and stimulate the creation of an Italian and German research network. Twenty experts have therefore agreed to discuss their research results and work alongside young scholars to draw up tangible objectives for the study of linguistic minorities at risk of extinction.
