One of the priorities of VLACH is the support of the dialectological diversity of the Romanian language. Most recent works seem to favor a number of three clear dialects, corresponding to the regions of Wallachia, Moldavia, and Banat, and an additional group of varieties covering the remainder of Transylvania, two of which are more clearly distinguished, in Crișana and Maramureș. The following activities and measures are being carried out during the first activity period of the VLACH commission (2016-2021):

  • field research conducted by Răzvan Roșu in different regions of Transsylvania
  • field research conducted by Thede Kahl and Andreea Pascaru in Eastern Serbia
  • field research in Istra concerning vlaški/žejanski speakers (Istroromanian)
