Experience experimental physics

Students discuss their voluntary internship at SMI

This summer SMI hosted three volunteers as part of the "Studienstiftung" study programme held by the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In the course of a month, the young students gained insight into experimental physics with penning traps, electron guns and even antihydrogen!
One of the students found it interesting to see the range of skills required, from electrical engineering to  quantum mechanics, to perform a successful experiment.
Another student enjoyed being able to directly contribute to research through the implementation of their own solutions.

The "Studienstiftung" study programme currently has an open call, applications can be submitted until the end of September here:   https://www.oeaw.ac.at/studienstiftung/
