The ASACUSA Cusp experiment beamtime starts at CERN

The ASACUSA Cusp experiment beamtime starts at the antiproton decelerator hall at CERN.

The ASACUSA-Cusp experiment has begun taking antiprotons from CERN’s antiproton decelerator for their 2018 beam time campaign.

The experiment aims to produce a spin polarised beam of antihydrogen which will be used to perform a spectrographic measurement of the ground state hyperfine structure of the antiatom.

Comparisons between matter and antimatter may reveal violations in CPT symmetry which may yield a greater understanding of why our universe is comprised mostly of matter.
