I am currently investigating the powerful – yet poorly understood - molecular mechanisms deployed by plants to prevent dangerous RNA viruses from proliferating in their stem cells and from infecting their progeny. In particular, I am focusing on the role that antiviral RNA interference plays in these complex phenomena by using the model species Arabidopsis thaliana. I am working hard to establish the investigation of these fundamental biological processes and their applications in crop defense as a long-term line of research.
