… earned his degree in general linguistics from Klagenfurt University after studying computational linguistics at the Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken. Before joining ACDH-CH, he worked at the Austrian Research Institute for AI (OFAI), contributing to numerous national and international projects focused on speech synthesis, multimodal generation, and modelling emotions in embodied conversational agents.

As a member of the research unit DH Research&Infrastructure, Hannes Pirker is responsible for the unique Austrian Media Corpus (amc), a text corpus of Austrian print media. He manages the technical aspects of corpus encoding, linguistic annotation of raw texts, and publication via a corpus engine, while also providing user support. His experience in text processing and the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools enable him to support other projects frequently. For instance, he recently participated in the CLARIN ParlaMint project, which encodes parliamentary protocols in TEI, and the re-launch of the VOICE corpus, where he integrated richly annotated transcripts of spoken interactions into an efficient search engine.

At the ACDH-CH, he currently is concerned with the Austrian Media Corpus and with the semi-automatic corpus-based enhancement of dictionaries.
