From Collisions and Collaboration to Innovation and Design Thinking

In a talk organized by the ACDH and the HEPHY (Institute of High Energy Physics), Dr Markus Nordberg (Head of Resources Developement at CERN, Switzerland) spoke about collaborative research in experimental physics and what other disciplines could learn from it.

In February 2017, the ACDH and the HEPHY (Institute of High Energy Physics) had the pleasure to host this talk by Dr Markus Nordberg (Head of Resources Developement at CERN, Switzerland):

From Collisions and Collaboration to Innovation and Design Thinking : Is there anything that could work outside physics?

Dr. Nordberg’s talk demonstrated the importance of collaborative research in experimental particle physics, using CERN as a case study. He focused on IdeaSquare as an on-going experiment on how detector R&D related efforts could be connected with society-driven innovation, without compromising the basic research mission of the organization. In the discussion with the audience, he explored the possibility of loosely applying the model outside the domain of particle physics.
