To visit Austria you need a passport valid for at least 3 months after the date of your expected departure from Austria or another country which is part of the Schengen Agreement. Austria belongs to the passport-free Schengen area and if you are an EU national you do not need to show your national ID card or passport when travelling from a passport-free Schengen EU country to Austria but you still need it to prove your identity, e.g. when boarding a plane or at hotel check-in. There are direct train connections from many European cities to Vienna. You can check your train on the Austrian Federal Railways web page. The new Vienna Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), formerly know as the South Train Station (Südbahnhof), is located close to the Belvedere. You can get fast and easily to any part of Vienna from there either using public transport or a taxi.
The main bus station Vienna International Busterminal (VIB) serves international and national connections: see buslinien.at for schedules. Many long distance buses stop also in front of the Stadion Center: see their website for details. There are regular connections to many European destinations.

The Airport Bratislava (Bratislava letisko) is a low-cost airport located 90 km from Vienna and is connected to Vienna by train and bus. You can get to the city centre:
Please be aware that, if you arrive by car, you have to get a toll sticker at a gas station when you enter the country. A minimum 10-day-ticket (vignette) cost approx. 9 Euro.
Vienna public transport system (Wiener Linien) includes buses, trams and metro connections. Tickets are available at automata at bigger stations, from most newspaper agents and from bus/tram drivers. Tickets are valid for all means of municipal transport. Every ticket has to be validated in blue machines located at the entrance to the metro stations or in the buses and trams. If you have a Ticket for one way you do not have to validate at changes. It is advisable to buy 24 h (7,60 Euro) or 72 h (16,50 Euro) travelcard. They give you flexibility in changing means of transport. Also, with travelcard you do not have to remember to validate tickets every time, it is enough to do it only once, during the first ride. Single tickets cost 2.20 Euro.
