One Schema to Rule them All

A new publication on ARCHE and the state of data repositories in Austria is available now!

One Schema to Rule them All.
The Inner Workings of the Digital Archive ARCHE

With this recently published contribution to the ongoing series "Messages from the VÖB (Vereinigung Österreichischer Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare)", Martina Trognitz and Matej Durco turn the spotlight on the ACDH's new repository ARCHE, affording some glimpses at its "inner workings" and exploring the state of digital repositories in Austria while reflecting on current and future challenges.

ARCHE (short for A Resource Centre for the HumanitiEs) is the digital archive recently launched by the ACDH. The article describes the technical setup of the repository, which welcomes data from all humanities fields and offers persistent hosting as well as dissemination of resources. Special focus is afforded to the bespoke metadata schema that was created to help in finding, accessing, and reusing data. Beyond that, the schema binds together the different system components, contains mappings to other well-known schemas, provides multilingual labels for GUI display, and is used to generate a metadata form.

The publication is written in English and is freely available in digital form from the VÖB website.
