ACDH goes DHd2018

At the beginning of March, the annual conference of the association for Digital Humanities in the german-speaking area (Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum DHd) will be hosted by the University of Cologne. Numerous ACDH researchers will participate in the conference in manifold ways.

From February 26th to March 3rd, the annual conference of the association for Digital Humanities in the german-speaking area (Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum DHd) will be hosted by the Cologne Center for eHumanities at the University of Cologne. This year’s conference motto was inspired by the philosopher Immanuel Kant and seeks to motivate researchers to reflect upon their digital methodology: “Kritik der digitalen Vernunft” (Critique of digital reason). Numerous ACDH researchers will contribute to the programme and participate in the conference in manifold ways.

At a panel on discipline-specific data management as “the sum of humanities methods”, Matej Ďurčo will discuss future-oriented research with colleagues from data archives from all over Germany. Vanessa Hannesschläger, who was awarded a DFG travel grant to participate in the conference, will offer a workshop on legal issues in DH projects together with CLARIN and DARIAH colleagues. In addition, she will present a poster on the topic of modelling gender in person data together with Peter Andorfer, who will also present a poster on his “TEIHencer”, a tool for enhancing TEI documents. Christoph Hoffmann will offer thoughts on “Science as a service?” in his poster, while Katalin Lejtovicz and Matthias Schlögl will discuss quantitative methods of analysis for biographical data in a poster co-authored with colleagues from the APIS project team. Tanja Wissik will not only present the first poster on the ELEXIS project (European Lexicographic Infrastructure), which only officially kicked off two weeks before the conference, but will also show a poster on “assassins, murderers, thiefs and the associated matters of fact” together with Claudia Resch. Together with Dario Kampkaspar, Claudia Resch will also speak about collaboratively editing historical newspapers in a talk about the Wie[n]erisches Diarium project.

PARTHENOS will have a stand at the DHd conference, where ACDH member Klaus Illmayer will provide researchers with information on the project. The research infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH will share another stand, where the digital humanities austria (dha) network will also be represented. Interested scholars will be able to meet CLARIN and DARIAH members from the ACDH and other DH institutes to learn about the infrastructures and the services they can offer. If you are interested in meeting our team members, you can find them at these booths during the coffee breaks. If you are not able to travel to Cologne to join the conference, you are invited to follow #dhd2018 on Twitter - the ACDH will share insights and information on the conference via this channel.
