A note on general population dynamics with implications for the momentum in gradual demographic transitions

A new representation of dynamic population is proposed based on results from the theory of demographic potentials. The paper introduces dynamically stable population and shows that under certain conditions real populations converge to the dynamically stable one. Explicit expressions are derived for the asymptotics of the dynamically stable and of the observed populations. These expressions are used to obtain new results for the momentum for gradual demographic transitions.

Dalkhat Ediev graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and was affiliated to the Karachay-Cherkessian State Technological Institute for several years. Since 2005 he works at VID. His research interests include mathematical demography, population projections and reconstruction.
