Asian Demographic and Human Capital Data Sheet 2012
The data on education in the Asian Demographic and Human Capital Data Sheet 2012 is obtained through the same methodology as the 2008 version (link). Based on empirical starting data, past educational attainment by age and sex are reconstructed back to 1970, and projected to 2050 according to several scenarios. The method developed at IIASA’s World Population Program in Austria has been extensively documented and published in peer reviewed journals (Lutz et al. 2007, Riosmena et al. 2008, K.C. et al. 2010). The data presented in the Data Sheet for 1990, 2010, and 2050 has been updated with more recent empirical starting data when available for around 2000-2011 for most countries in the world (Bauer et al. 2012), within the framework of the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and forthcoming (2012-2013) Wittgenstein/Oxford global human capital projections (link).
