Constitution of the Hannes Androsch Foundation at the Austrian Academy of Sciences

The most important privately funded, non profit   foundation established in Austria since 1945

Dr. Hannes Androsch has established a foundation named for him at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The constituent session took place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences' hall of John the Baptist on June 21st, 2004.

The foundation aims at promoting scientific works dealing mainly with labour, the strengthening of social balance and peace in co-operation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Androsch says that the establishment of this foundation corresponds with the way he sees himself as a citoyen, as a citizen feeling responsible for society. He has chosen to focus on the topic of "labour" because it is essential for every human being. Simultaneously, the world of labour is subject to constant change in the course of technological and economic development. The transition to an information, educated and knowledge society as well as globalisation, demographic changes or the ageing society are going to alter our society in general and the word of labour in particular. It is therefore necessary to react in time to emerging changes in order to be able to develop perspective approaches and models for socially acceptable solutions that will be manageable in the future. Dr. Androsch wants his foundation and its top-class board consisting of six members of the Austrian Academy of Sciences to contribute to these goals. The foundation also intends to award a Hannes Androsch Prize.

Initially, the foundation has been endowed with one million euros. It is planned to increase the assets of the foundation to ten million euros over the next 10 years.

The Hannes Androsch Foundation at the Austrian Academy of Sciences is the most important privately funded non profit foundation that has been established in Austria since 1945. Dr. Androsch says it is his intention to signal the importance of science and research, which are increasingly being treated stepmotherly in Austria, by establishing his foundation. By acting this way, Austria risks to loose touch with a global development, thereby allowing unforeseeable negative consequences for the economy and consequently for jobs with a guaranteed future.

Dr. Hannes Androsch is the president of the foundation. Further members of the board are Dr. Renate Platzer and on the part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences President Prof. DI Dr. Herbert Mang and Secretary General Prof. Dr. Herwig Friesinger.

The scientific advisory board is made up by Prof. Dr. Herbert Matis, Prof. DI Dr. Wilhelm Schneider, Prof. Dr. Georg Stingl, Prof. Dr. Erich Streissler, Prof. DI Dr. Hans Sünkel and Prof. Dr. Gunther Tichy.
