The Institute for Limnology’s (ILIM) current research focuses on investigating the origin and maintenance of diversity of aquatic organisms and communities at various levels, ranging from molecules (genes and proteins) over organisms and populations to communities. ILIM’s research is primarily being supported by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Austrian Science Fund, the Commission of the European Union and several governmental institutions in Austria. For the latter, the Institute conducts consulting and applied research projects.
The research results are published in international journals and internal reports (Publications). The Annual Report (partly in German) summarizes the research and teaching activities of the Institute. The working groups currently operating at Mondsee are listed below (Principal investigators in parentheses).
ILIM’s activities are supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) consisting of independent and internationally renowned scientists in the field of limnology. The SAB usually holds annual meetings in Mondsee. Additionally, the Institute’s performance is evaluated by a team of international experts at longer intervals (Evaluation Report 2010).
