Preliminary thesis title: “Demographic modeling of whitefish with reference to toxins from cyanobacteria and climate change”. The RADICAL project focuses on direct and indirect climate effects on whitefish populations in Pre-Alpine lakes. Stochastic population models are generated for Lake Mondsee and Hallstättersee to estimate the prospective demographic trend of whitefish populations. These models incorporate natural variability and therefore reflect natural systems better than deterministic models. The prediction of the demographic whitefish population trend helps to analyse lake management actions and potential threat of autochthonous coregonid species. RAMAS (Risk Assessment and Management Alternatives Software) modules will be used to assess risks of cyanobacterial blooms under future climate scenarios associated with increased production of toxins, effects on various components of the plankton community and especially on future whitefish population development considering ecotoxicological risks.
