On September 26, 2007 Prof. Dr. Othmar Preining, "wirkliches Mitglied" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, long term head of the Institute of Experimental Physics, Dean and afterwards Prorektor of the University of Vienna deceased. He was member of the CAC since 1969, from 1986 to 1990 vice chairman and then chairman until 2002. Within this period he substantially influenced the work of the CAC, in many cases by initiating or leading the scientific projects. Because of his broad spectrum of interests he contributed not only to physical problems but as well in all other fields of environmental questions. He used his many national and international awards to support all his disciples, coworkers and colleagues. It will be impossible to substitute him within the work of the CAC.

On November 7, 2007 also Prof. DDr. Manfred Haider former head of the Institute for Environmental Hygiene died unexpectedly. He was a member of the CAC since 1971 and also vice chairman from 1990 to 1992. Manfred Haider was engaged in all environmental health questions the CAC was working on in a leading position. Some of us remember him gratefully as their teacher, for all of us he was a real friend who helped to solve many problems by his tolerant and sincere personality.
