  Michael Nentwich, born 1964

1982-1989: studies in economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, and of political science and law at the University of Vienna; 1988: LL.M. (Vienna); 1989/90: post-graduate studies at the College of Europe, Brugge (Belgium): Diploma of Advanced European Studies 1990; 1990/92 scientific collaborator at ITA (projects on legistic consequences of new telecommunications technologies, and on consumer cards); 1991-96: lecturer at the Research Institute for European Affairs of the Vienna University of Economics; 1995: Doctorate in Law; 1994/95: Human Capital Mobility Fellow at the Universities of Warwick and Essex (England); 1998/99 guest scientist at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Cologne; since Summer 1996 employed at ITA; March 2004: venia docendi in STS at University of Vienna; main research focus at the moment is information and communication technologies, in particular the Internet. Since January 2006 director of ITA.

  Georg Aichholzer, born 1951

Degree in sociology at the University of Vienna; 1976-1978: postgraduate studies at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna and assistant professor in the Department of Sociology there from 1979-1992 (special fields: industrial sociology and sociology of technology); lecturer at the University of Vienna (1984-1993), University of Klagenfurt (1991) and, since 1992, at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration; 1993: research fellow at the International University, Tokyo. Since 1993 employed by the ITA. Publications and extensive experience in research and teaching on interrelations of information and communication technologies (ICT), innovation, social organisation and society. Current focus: ICT and electronic services, e-government, e-democracy, information society and governance.

ma  Ulrike Bechtold, born 1975

Studied biology/anthropology with a special focus on human ecology at the University of Vienna. In 2000/2001 she attended the master's programme for Human Ecology at the Freije Universiteit of Brussels (Belgium). Her thesis focused on the evaluation of an Austrian DA-Project dealing with sustainable freshwater use in the second largest city of Guatemala. In 2003 she started working as a PhD research assistant for the Human Ecology working group with special attention on transition studies, societal transition and local sustainability. In 2006 she completed her PhD and a training course of 392 hours in mediation.
Recent focus of work: Development of sustainability options, requirements for sustainability processes, conflicts and participative approaches to investigate the triangle “technology – human being – natural resources”. In March 2007 she joined the ITA where she is working in the area of Environmental Technology..

 Alexander Bogner, born 1969

Studies in sociology at the universities of Salzburg, Marburg and Frankfurt am Main. Ph.D. (2003) and Habilitation (2010) in sociology at the University of Vienna. Postgraduate student and research assistant at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) in Vienna 1998-2000. Since 2002 employed by ITA. Research grant of the Austrian Programme for Advanced Research & Technology (APART) 2007-2009. Visiting scholar at the University of Basel, at the Institut für Sozialforschung in Frankfurt am Main and at the California State University in Sacramento. 2010/11 Assistant professor at the Institute of Social Ecology of the Alps-Adria-University of Klagenfurt. Since 2011 full-time Senior Researcher at the ITA. Lectures and courses at several universities in Germany and Austria on social theory, sciences studies and qualitative and quantitative methods. Research interests: Science and technology studies, environmental sociology, social theory, empirical research methods.

 Johann Cas, born 1957

 André Gazsó, born 1959

studied Medicine, Biology (MSc. in 1992) and Philosophy (MA. in 1994 and PhD. in 1996). Between 1997 and 2007 he was employed as research fellow at the University of Vienna (Faculty of Geosciences, Geography and Astronomy, Dept. of Risik Research). Postgradual training in risk communication (2001, Brussels) and risk management (2004, Vienna; accredited at the Austrian Standards Institute since 2005). Since 2003 member, since 2006 vice chair of the Standards Committee on "Risk and crisis management" at the Austrian Standards Institute. Since 1998 leader of several projects within the EU/Euratom programme SERF (Socio-economic Research on Fusion). Since 2002 member of the NoE "Trustnet2" and its successor "Trustnet-in-Action", a European network for risk management and risk governance. Several teaching positions (activities) at the University of Vienna and the FH-Campus Vienna; since October 2007 research associate at ITA for the project NanoTrust.

 Mahshid Sotoudeh, born 1963

Studied Chemical Engineering in Tehran and Vienna, graduating with Honours in 1991. She commenced employment at the Vienna University of Technology working on sustainable development and interdisciplinary modelling in Environmental Engineering. Doctoral Thesis in 1994. Mahshid moved to the research Institute of Chemistry and Environment in 1994 and continued her work on the modelling of material flows in the natural and industrial systems. In 1998 she started work at ITA in Environmental Technology.
In 2010 she concluded her "habilitation" procedure at the Technical University of Graz and received the venia legendi in "Technology Assessment and Sustainability."

 Jaro Sterbik-Lamina, born 1973
