Genes versus Fast Food: Eat, Drink and be Wary
Helen Hobbs, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Helen H. Hobbs is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center. She graduated Stanford University and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She obtained clinical training in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 1987 and is currently Director of the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development and the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at Dallas. Her work focuses on defining genetic variations that contribute to susceptibility (and resistance) to cardiovascular disease. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences. She received the American Heart Association Clinical Research Prize, the Heinrich Wieland Prize, and the 2007 American Heart Association Distinguished Scientist Award. Helen Hobbs is the 4th CeMM Karl Landsteiner Lecturer.
