By founding research associations such as the IMBA - Institute of Molecular Biotechnology and the GMI - Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology as limited liability companies under Austrian law, the Austrian Academy of Sciences embarked on a new approach to institutional organisation.
