In fundamental issues a Senate provides support to the Academy.

Academy Council

The Academy Council of the Austrian Academy of Sciences supervises the activities of the Academy in order to ensure transparency and surveillance.

An international Research Board gives advice in strategic scientific decisions and provides support to the Academy to assure its further scientific development and quality.

A Financial Advisory Board with predominantly external experts gives advice in financial aspects of the Academy.

Headquarter of the ÖAW

The main seat of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is the Old University in the centre of Vienna. Based on a design of the French architect Jean Nicolas Jadot, it was built between 1753 and 1755.
