Cultural Survival in a Palestinian City
An Ethnography of Nablus under Siege and Occupation
In her PhD project, Noura Kamal aims to analyze and compare the urban population of Nablus, Palestine, under two recent military conditions: that of immediate siege and that of regular occupation. After identifying specific urban sub-groups, she will assess and interpret behavioral patterns under both military conditions through different methods of ethnographic inquiry. The theoretical framework for analyzing these two different military contexts is inspired by recent social science and anthropological reasoning on “New Wars.”
