Can the Internet swing the Vote?

Jens Villiam Hoff, University of Copenhagen, Department of Political
Science

Can the Internet swing the vote? Based on unique log data and a follow-up questionnaire about how a panel of 5080 randomly selected citizens have used the internet politically during the November 2007 Danish national elections, this talk will concentrate on whether and how such use has affected citizens politically. For example: does it affect one politically to visit the website of a political party? Does the reading of political blogs affect readers politically? Does the use of political "tests" affect voters? And if such effects can be found do they depend on whether the citizens are already politically interested and engaged or not?
