Saturn's Aurorae
Magnetospheric Generation and Energy Considerations
It is known that Saturn's aurorae are linked to specific structures and processes in the magnetosphere. They are strongly influenced both by internal forces (planetary rotation and magnetospheric coupling effects) and by external forces (solar wind plasma and magnetic field). With Cassini in orbit around Saturn, now is an ideal time to make progress on understanding the planet's aurorae, both as magnetospheric signatures and as part of the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/ionosphere).
