Alpine Invertebrate Diversity:
Functional Indicators and Long-Term Monitoring

Kerner-von-Marilaun Workshop on Long-Term Ecological Research

Mountain ranges with their compressed altitudinal gradients and topographical heterogeneity currently receive increasing attention as hotspots of species richness. Despite - or possibly just because of - the vast number of species our knowledge on alpine invertebrates has remained fragmentary. Regional coverage and taxonomic scope of the available information is strongly tied to the presence and interest of specialists working on certain invertebrate groups. In contrast, approaches for vertebrates and vascular plants are much better established.
The aim of the workshop will be to gather and compile the expertise available, and to provide recommendations for an integration of invertebrates in international programs on mountain biodiversity.

A workshop of Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (DIVERSITAS) in cooperation with the Commission for Interdisciplinary Ecological Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Zoology and Limnology of the University of Innsbruck

Venue:
Obergurgl, in the Tyrolean Oetztal

We will gather on Wednesday, September 4th, in Innsbruck at the Institute of Zoology and Limnology, Technikerstraße 25.
