10 Jahre Gregor-Mendel-Institut
Top-ÖAW-Institut auf dem Gebiet der Pflanzenbiologie feiert Jubiläum
Am Mittwoch, den 16. November 2011, feiert das GMI - Gregor-Mendel-Institut für Molekulare Pflanzenbiologie der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) seinen zehnten Geburtstag. Das GMI wurde von der ÖAW als GmbH gegründet, um Spitzenforschung in der molekularen Pflanzenbiologie zu fördern. Es ist die einzige internationale Grundlagenforschungseinrichtung auf diesem Gebiet in Österreich. Im Lauf des vergangenen Jahrzehnts lieferte es wertvolle Beiträge auf dem Gebiet der Pflanzenmolekular- und Populationsgenetik, Chromosomenbiologie, Stressresistenz und Entwicklungsbiologie. Das Institut ist seit 2006 am Campus Vienna Biocenter lokalisiert und verfügt über ausgezeichnete Ausstattung und Infrastruktur, beispielsweise Top-Klimakammern und modernste Genomanalytik.
Am 16. November 2011 feiert das GMI gemeinsam mit Wissenschaftsminister Karlheinz Töchterle, Wiens Bürgermeister Michael Häupl und ÖAW-Präsident Helmut Denk. Die Veranstaltung findet am GMI, Dr. Bohr-Gasse 3, 1030, Wien statt.

Gregor Mendel Institute celebrates 10 years at the forefront of plant biology
On Wednesday 16 November 2011, the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI) celebrates its 10th anniversary as one of Austria's leading scientific research institutes. To mark this significant milestone, the GMI is holding an anniversary celebration, to be attended by the Austrian Minster for Science and Research, Karlheinz Töchterle, the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Häupl, the President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Helmut Denk, members of Vienna's research community and GMI staff. The event will comprise a mini-symposium including talks from three internationally recognized leaders in plant biology, followed by a formal ceremony and birthday reception.
The GMI was founded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2000 to promote research excellence in the area of plant molecular biology. It is the only international center for basic plant research in Austria. Over the past decade the GMI has grown from a fledgling institute located across Vienna to a world-class research center occupying state-of-the-art facilities at the Vienna Biocenter Campus in Vienna's third district. During that time the GMI has made significant contributions to the field of plant biology. The event will take place at the GMI, Dr Bohr-Gasse 3, 1030, Vienna.
